WELCOME TO THE DIARY OF MY 2006 CHARITY RIDE
FROM LANDS END TO JOHN O'GROATS AND BACK
TOTAL RAISED = £2,900

DAY ONE
Well as you know we set off from LANDS END on 6th Sept through the fog that they seem to get
down
there, this was the start of our ride to the other end of the country. We rode up on
the A30 to EXETER
then took the B3181 to rejoin the A38 at
WATERLOO CROSS. The route went
all to plan until w
e let Radar lead then we went 6 miles out of our way. It was the first
of many wrong turns but it
added to the fun.
As we moved futher up the country and the rest
were leaving roads they knew behind I was
travelling into my territory as I know these roads,
we were having problems as the QUAD was slowing us down big
time. WARRINGTON came and went,
PRESTON was a doddle too. LANCASTER was not too bad but we were behind
schedule and no chance
of making it up. As we motored through
KENDAL and over to PENRITH tensions were
getting quite bad.

How bad I found out at CARLISLE. We stopped at the IBIS hotel, very nice and I needed my
sleep, the group of us had
a little chat to sort out a few of our disagreements and then
off to bed..... urm how
wrong was I.

DAY TWO
We finally set off at 8am and rode back onto the road the wrong way (my fault) then up
and away to
SCOTLAND and did we know it as we crossed the border, the views were
unbelievable, I planned the route up through places like LOCKERBIE, ABINGTON and LESMAHAGOW, so
we could enjoy some of the sights, but after
GLASGOW we were all in for a treat. LOCH LOMOND
can only be described a beautiful. We stopped for a short break but we all knew it was going
to be very short.

We then rode up towards FORT WILLIAM to meet up with the crew from the ROAD HOGGZ CAFE
(BALLACHULISH) and we were on time until a scottish highways man stopped us in our tracks
and we ended up doing a 60 mile detour. Unfortunately a GERMAN BIKER HAD LOST HIS LIFE.
Finally we got there and we were all well and truly looked after. We stayed for 1.5 hours
before setting off again via
LOCH NESS and no we didn't see nessie!!. We were well behind by
this point but who cared, we didn't care we were having a good time.
INVERNESS came and went.
By now I was hurting, my whiplash had set in and my spine was telling me to stop (NO CHANCE).
Day 2 took us 18 hours to complete of long hard riding. We eventually go to Thursday to book
into the PARK HOTEL and sleep.

DAY THREE/FOUR
We left the hotel at 8.30am on the 8th September to ride up to JOHN O'GROATS for photo's and goodies
and to start the long ride home. By now we were all tired and sore and we decided the only way to get
this ride done in the 4 days was to ride...ride...ride, so we set off at 10.30am homeward bound but
going over the
CAIRGORMS NATIONAL PARK via AVIEMORE, PITLOCHRY, PERTH and STIRLING, then the same
way back as we came up. We rode all day and all night finally stopping just outside
KIDDERMINSTER
for an hours sleep, then it was back on the road for DEVON and what a sight when we got there. We
arranged to meet up with bikers on the way (but we won't go there). I always said I'd be in HAYLE to
meet MIKE WALTERS and the FIRST & LAST lads at 4.30pm. We got there 4.28pm, the POLICE were there to
escort us the rest of the way and I was expecting to ride to
LANDS END and see lots of bikers (but it was
not to be). We had ridden 1875 miles in 4 days for the
RNLI, CORNWALL and DEVON AIR AMBULANCE but there
was nobody there from either one to welcome us home.
THE FIRST & LAST BIKERS WERE THE ONLY ONES AND I THANK THEM VERY MUCH!!
The only thing left was FOOD/PHOTO'S & REST before going home to PLYMOUTH.
WE DID IT.....
